OUR PROJECT :
« champcornu's wall”, composed of dry stone low walls, is a site situated near the village La Crèche. A local association which takes care of the local heritage, has already gathered some of its members to start restoring those low walls. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, 3 international workcamps enabled to pursue this work. This year, the goal will be to restore another part of this small typical village's wall. Moreover, it will be an opportunity for people who have a certain expertise or know-how to transmit it to the young generations. The objective is also so imply as much as possible young people from the village in order to make them aware of the interest to respect such constructions. What is more, this action is part of a global project : a strong political will is working for the respect and the development of the local heritage in order to encourage the inhabitants to so and to respect it.
Thus, thanks to last years’ experiment, the municipality and the association see in the welcoming of a new workcamp an original means to achieve this restoration and, at the same tie, to benefit from the aspect of animation and intercultural meeting. .
Technical objectives :
- to dismantle a fragile part of the low wall, in order to raise it again ;
- to clean the site in order to prepare it to the raising of the low wall ;
- to learn how to choose the stones to raise the low wall to its heigth of origin.
A local employee, as well as the inhabitants, will be present to help you in the technical achievement of the project.
THE GROUP: around 12 volunteers along with 1 or 2 leaders to help you organise yourselves for daily life. The group will manage a budget for shopping and each volunteer will do cooking and cleaning in turns. The group will organise cooking and cleaning:-remember to bring recipes from your country! The group language will depend on its make-up, but english and french are often the languages used on camps.
LEISURE: the group, with the help of leaders and the locals, will organise their own leisure activities. In Deux-Sèvres county there’s beautiful countryside and nice historic and culinary heritage to discover. You’ll do things with the villagers and will invent your own activities in the evenings.
LODGINGS: a village hall (dormitory, kitchen, eating and sanitary facilities), Don’t forget to bring your own sleeping bag!

OUR ORGANISATION :
SOLIDARITÉS JEUNESSES is a non-profit making organisation which is the French branch of the international movement « Youth Action for Peace » (YAP), founded in 1923, after the first World War by French and German protestants. Right from the beginning YAP is a non-religious movement believing in the necessity to overcome frontiers, whether they be national, religious or cultural, in order to work for peace. Solidarités Jeunesses has a regional network in France that develops actions for and with young people. One of its tools is international workcamps, places of intercultural, and intergenerational exchanges, opportunities for active solidarity.
Solidarités Jeunesses Poitou-Charentes is the regional member of the movement. It organises about 15 international workcamps in the area each year and other international and community development projects throughout the year. 13 years ago, it set up a residential and cultural centre called la Maison des Bateleurs, from which the workcamps are coordinated.
